"Museums, Cemetery and a train to Poland" Will.traveller's photos around Lviv, Ukraine (vacation)
Is this an old ukrainian custom?
I am looking in to my family history and have been given some old letters and photographs from family believed to be from Ukraine. There is a picture of a woman in her late 40s who looks deceased and in a coffin, she is holding a cross and there are two young children stood beside the coffin looking at the camera. Is this a custom that was done quite a lot? And if it is, is this normally done for close relatives? Mothers, fathers? Etc the picture is dated 1959 so was taken 50 years ago.
Not necessarily Ukrainian, but just an older custom. People often took pictures at the funeral and gravesite as well.
