Question about Family Responsibility Leave?
I live in South Africa and am pregnant. My due date is the 5th of July, which is unfortunately right in the middle of the Soccer World Cup. My husband works for the South African Police Service and he was just now informed that if he takes any leave, even family responsibility leave during the World cup period, it will be seen as unpaid and that he will be marked as being AWOL.
Is this correct? Can an employer refuse to grant a person family responsibility leave when their child is being born?
Why not, they did not ask you to have your baby at this time. I bet your father never had time off when you were born for "family responsibility leave". Thats the hard word, now the practicality of the situation, you will be well attended to by the midwife and for the most part your husband will only be in the way, so have your baby and enjoy, dont put yourself under stress, you will manage quite well without him around.
